Well I am a first time blogger so I decided to start off with Chase's birth story! I don't want to forget it so I thought it would be fun to write about it!

Well at 36 weeks I went in to the doctor to have a stress test done because Chase wasn't moving as much as I would have liked. During the test they weren't thrilled with how much he wasn't moving either, but they found that I was having contractions every 3 minutes. I thought that I would have the baby before 40 weeks and I was so excited and every night I waited to go into labor and it never happened :( Well that week we moved from one apartment to another so my week consisted of cleaning, moving, then moving in and cleaning. We had a lot of help which I was so grateful for! When we were moved in Chase's crib came so we spent about 3 hours putting it together. That night my arms, face, tongue, throat and mouth started to go numb.  I didn't think too much of it until I couldn't talk very well. A little while later I couldn't talk at all, I couldn't see, and I wasn't able to form sentences and I couldn't understand what people were saying to me. I tried to tell Seth and he got the gist and drove me to the ER. I called my mom and tried to tell her I was headed to the ER but I couldn't get it all out and she told me she would come but I didn't understand what she was saying so I just hung up! I knew that I was out of it but it was like I was trapped and couldn't say anything.

They checked me into the labor and delivery section in the hospital and said I might have to have the baby that night. I started crying I wasn't ready! They wheeled me up to the delivery unit and apparently on the way there we got into the elevator and there was an old couple and the old man was trying to be funny and said " move over for the wide load!" I guess I gave him a pretty dirty look but I don't remember that at all so I excuse myself from doing that. Who says that! Anyways after a few hours in the labor and delivery section they said that the baby was fine so I wouldn't be delivering that night, even though I wasn't ready to have the baby I was disappointed that I wouldn't be meeting him that night.  It was strange because about 2 hours later I just snapped out of it. I could talk and understand people, I could see and I wasn't numb anymore. They sent me back down to the ER and checked me in there. I had to have multiple tests over the next few days to make sure I didn't have a stroke. Everything came back ok except they found out I have a blood clotting problem. In the hospital I was dilated to a 3 and so over the next week I started walking and running the stairs in our townhouse. Haha I probably looked pretty funny thinking about it now and it didn't even work!

At 39 weeks I was dilated to a 4 but not progressing at all so I asked when we could schedule my induction. We scheduled it for my due date on January 21, 2014. The night before I didn't sleep hardly at all as I impatiently waited for the biggest day of my life. I was terrified and just kept feeling like something bad was going to happen. We got to the hospital at 6 AM and finally at 8 AM the Doctor came and broke my water. They found that there was meconium in my water and they said it looked like it had been there for awhile. I started crying and was really nervous because I know that there can be a lot of complications if the baby has swallowed meconium. I was still at a 4 and they started me on pitocin. At about 11 I was at a 6 and I got my epidural. It was the best thing ever and I should have gotten it sooner. I am all for drugs while I am in labor! I only felt slight pressure during contractions which was amazing. I pretty much just laid there and rested until about 12:30 and the nurse came in and said the baby's heartbeat kept dropping she checked me and I was at a 9.5 and 100% effaced! I couldn't believe it and neither could the nurse.

Getting checked into Labor and Delivery

I had to wait until 1:30 PM to start pushing because the doctor wasn't there. After an hour of pushing Chase was born at 2:39 PM, he weighed 7 lbs 5 oz and was 20 inches long. He was rushed to the NICU nurses that were in the room so they could pump his stomach and stop him from swallowing meconium. His oxygen levels kept dropping. While he was getting wiped down and having his oxygen levels checked, the nurse asked Seth what his name was and Seth decided it was Chase! We were trying to decide between Chase and Dallin and Seth was the one that decided it was Chase (which is what I wanted anyways!) After 30 mins I finally got to see him and eventually hold him! He was having problems breathing and so they had to take him to the NICU. Seth didn't even get to hold him :( An hour later he was brought back and Seth got to hold him and we just loved on him! We named him Chase Roger Connors. That night they pumped another bottle of meconium from his stomach. We stayed for two nights and I loved having the nurses there so I could get help whenever I needed it! Now he is 5 months old and I love him to pieces and I love him more and more every day!!

Chase had to get oxygen because he couldn't keep his levels up

Seth finally got to hold him after 2 hours of being born!

  1. What a beautiful story Leslie! I'm so glad that everything turned out ok. It sounds like things were a little scary. You are such a great mom. What an inspiration.
